This morning we dropped JP off at the airport… he is going to England for something to do with his work. You have no idea how jealous I am and how bad I wanted to go with him but it just wasn’t possible. So what is the next best thing to do? Have a day of fun! So Selena, Lily and I headed down to the old Pearl Brewery to the Tamales! Holiday Festival.
What is a Tamales! Holiday Festival? Here is the description I grabbed from the website:
The 3rd Annual Tamales! Holiday Festival returns to Pearl Saturday, Dec. 1 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Guests will be invited to explore a holiday Mexican streetscape full of the sounds, sights and tastes of the holiday season. 40+ tamale makers will be participating, including Tellez, Chef Jesse Perez, Culinary Institute of America, Chef Johnny Hernandez, Los Barrios, and many more. From 12:00 – 6:00, enjoy live music and performances in the amphitheater, activities for children at Pearl park, a Mexican Cervezaria featuring Corona and Modelo Especial and a tequila tasting in the Stable.
I am a huge fan of tamales so I came ready to eat.
The best part was each tamale was only a dollar or two depending on what it was made out of. Lily likes the chicken tamales and I like the pork tamales.
It was booth.
And there were lots of brightly colored decorations all over the place.
We even saw the tallest Mariachi ever.
And Lily tried to get into the secret stash.
While Lily and I only ate tamales Selena also had an empanada.
And of course none of us could say no to corn in a cup. I hadn’t heard of corn in a cup until a few years ago and I hadn’t tried it until last year. All I have to say about it is YUM, YUM and YUM!
After all that eating and walking around I totally vote Los Reyes Tamales as having the best tamale in San Antonio.
Here is Lily and Selena being silly.
Even though I snapped this picture after we left I totally have to add it because how many times do you see a lamb at a gas station in the back of a pickup truck? Only in Texas I guess.
