Budding Friendship

Ever since the first day of school Lily has told me that she made a new friend named Nicole. I remember the first day I picked her up from school she handed me a piece of paper and said “This is Nicole’s address”… when I looked at it the paper it was 4 digits… that’s it just 4 digits and no street name. I told her we had to be a little more specific and she got frustrated and said that Nicole lived in our neighborhood. The thing is that there are 5 different street names in our little community and I am pretty sure all the addresses are 5 digits.

Fast forward to today. Lily gets home after getting off the bus right around 3:00. I have a habit of unlocking the front door right before she gets home just in case I don’t hear her ring the door bell. Today I hear the doorbell and wonder why she didn’t just walk in. When I opened the door she had someone standing there with her. She said “May I please have permission to go to Nicole’s house”. This caught me off guard for two reasons. #1 – my daughter just said “may I please have permission” and #2- I don’t know Nicole, I don’t know her family and most of all I don’t know exactly where she lives. But seeing the excitement on their faces I said yes. I did tell them that I wanted to walk with them to her house. I guess now that they are of a certain age walking with me somewhere doesn’t mean walking next to me… it means walking ahead of me.

As we were walking I asked Nicole a bunch of questions and Lily turned to her and said “My mom always asks a lot of questions”. I wonder if it embarrasses her? I just want to know things about the kids she hangs out with. Anyway one of the questions I asked was “Who’s at your house?”. She said “Just me, my dog and my annoying little brother”. I was a little surprised and asked “No adults?” and she said “My nanny is there too”. Lily chimed in and said “Cameron has a nanny too, I don’t have a nanny… just a mom”. I am not sure if she thinks that is a good thing or not… but I hope so.

So here is to new friendships! When I was growing up my best friend lived right across the street from me. Maybe Lily’s lives right down the street?

I don’t usually repost videos but this one is really funny. Do you know who Jimmy Kimmel is? He has the viewers do funny prank videos sometimes. This one is I Got My Kid A Horrible Back To School Outfit!
