Daisy’s Pulled Pop Pork

We have been to a bunch of barbecue restaurants here in Texas. And most of them are great. I guess I can’t really say there is such a thing as bad bbq, but some are definitely better than others. I was talking to the guy at the Cooking Connection inside HEB today and I told him that every time I make pork roast in the oven I feel like it isn’t that great (JP denies this). Today I decided to try my hand at slow cooker Pulled Pork. I have never made it before but usually things in the slower cooker are pretty easy. I looked through a bunch of online recipes, considered what ingredients I had on hand and this is what I came up with.


1 Pork Roast

1 Bottle of BBQ Sauce

1 Onion

1 Can of Coca-Cola (or pop as I call it). I have lived in Texas for over 4 years now and I still have a hard time calling it soda. When I say “pop” I always get a funny look. I could go on and on about this whole pop verses soda thing but I won’t.

The first thing you do is chop up your onion and dump it in the bottom of your Crock Pot.

Then get out your roast and a can of coke.

Put the roast on top of the onions and add your pop.

Put the lid on, set the slower cooker to low and leave it alone.

About 7 hours later pull the roast out. Be careful when you pull it out because it will want to fall apart. As soon as I took the strings off it gave way. There was barely any pulling involved.

Put the pulled pork back in the crock pot and add some sweet bbq sauce. Today I tried a new brand named Garland Jack’s Secret Six Sweet Brown Sugar.

I let it simmer on low for a little while longer and then it was time to feast. It was good… like really good. And as you see it is silly easy to make. We liked the sauce a lot so I think next time I buy bbq sauce I will be buying Garland Jack’s again!
