The Cake Decorator

I remember when I was a kid my mom would ask us what kind of birthday cake we wanted. When we were younger the cake usually matched the theme of that birthday. For example look the 6 year old me… notice the cake and the doll that I am holding.

I was thinking back and I am pretty sure I have never made a birthday cake for Lily… like ever. I am just not very good with frosting. I mean I have all the tools and tips and stuff I am just not sure how to use them. When I was picking classes last month I picked cake decorating because it is something that I don’t know much about. Today was my first class.

I started with a cake and some frosting.

Then she taught us how to mix colors and what consistency we want the icing to be.

Once the cake was frosted she taught us how to make the frosting  perfectly flat (or in my case mostly) by using parchment paper. I learned to use the 21 or 22 to make the shell design to use as a bottom border.

I wanted to put this on my cake but after I did she told me that writing on the cake is suppose to be used with a 1 or 2… so I removed it.

She showed us how to make stars, flowers and leaves. Not the prettiest cake but it turned out a lot better than I expected.

As of right now I don’t think any bakeries will be knocking on my door looking to hire me.
