Ok kids it is Geography time! I mentioned a couple days ago that Lily and I are going on vacation soon. We have a direct flight to Detroit, MI on Thursday 6/16 and we have a direct return flight on 6/30 to San Antonio, TX. We don’t really have a firm plan its just gonna be Lily, me, the rental car and our GPS. Sounds exciting, huh?
We have a GPS that has never been out of the box, a book that I bought at Barnes & Noble and two free maps from our local AAA office. We want to see as many odd roadside attractions as possible. Did you know they have the World’s Largest Tire in Michigan? That is the kinda stuff we want to see!
Do you know how many times I have said “Did you know that the State of Michigan is shaped like a mitten?”… sadly about 60% of the time the response is “No, I didn’t know that.” Althought I am pretty sure most people know there are 5 Great Lakes I know for a fact that there are very few people (not counting people from Michigan or the surrounding states) that can name all 5 of them. On this trip Lily and I plan on seeing 4 of them. Just incase you are one of the people that don’t know: #1 – Lake Michigan, #2- Lake Superior, #3 – Lake Huron and #4 – Lake Erie. I have never seen Lake Ontario but it’s on my list for a something to do on a future trip to New York.
Our basic plan is to stay in Whitemore Lake (near Detroit) for a few days then head up north and kinda go in a circle around the state. The red star is our starting and ending point.
We plan on seeing family and friends along the way but we don’t really have any firm dates yet! If you are going to be in Michigan between 6/16 and 6/30 chances are we will probably try to visit you!
