My First Attempt At Making Rainbow Cupcakes

I have been running into lots of articles about people making rainbow cupcakes so today I decided to give it a try. The first thing I did was make the batter per the directions on the back of the box.

Then I seperated the batter equally into different bowls. I put approximately 1 large cup of batter in each bowl. I ended up having a little left over so I used a smaller bowl and picked a 5th color.

Then I added the food coloring. Some of the recipes I looked up said to use the gel food coloring instead of the drip kind but I didn’t listen.

But then I stirred like crazy.

And this is what they turned out like.

Each cupcake has approximately 4 large spoonfulls in it.

This recipe involves a lot of dish washing!

After they were done baking I pulled them out of the oven and put then on cooling racks. I was dissapointed to see that the purple turned more of a brown color when it was cooked. I am pretty sure this is why the other recipes said stuff about using a different dye.

Then I iced them and it was time for the moment of truth! Ta-da!

Ok still pretty cool but the color is not as bright as I wanted.

But I had it kid tested and she approved.

Awhile back I bought these cool cupcake covers to keep them fresh. Totally cool, right?

When I first saw this recipe I thought it would be a fun one to try with kids. I am kinda rethinking that now because it is kinda messy.
